I'm Just A Breath Of Fresh Air...

You are the Death card. Death is a stage in the
cycle of life. Without death, there would be no
room for new things to grow. When you receive
the Death card in a tarot reading, fear not;
Death is only an indication that transformation
is about to occur. Death allows us all to
evolve by removing that which is no longer
needed. The end of one cycle makes way for a
new one. Old behaviours and patterns which have
tied us down are released. Death cleans house
so that we don't have needless drains on our
energy. In Death's ruthless destruction there
lies compassion. Image from: Danielle Sylvie

How morbid is that!
The movie was very realistic in it's portrayal of the savagery of the tortures inflicted on Jesus. It was impossible for me to not react with emotion to see Him so brutally abused, and all by His own choice to lay down His own life for all. What amazes me still is that at any moment, Jesus could have chosen not to go through what He did. He had the power/slack of The Living God, you just can't top that. Ya know? In the whole aspect of my Dad can beat up your Dad....there just isn't any comparison. Just sayin'...
Yes, the film is violent...but as the Bible shows, what happened to Jesus was extremely violent. Flaying, beatings, and crucifixion isn't pretty, and I didn't expect it to be, when shown in detail. I also didn't think it was much worse than any horror films that show characters being slashed and murdered.
The film also made it clear that Jesus chose to be crucified. He quoted "I am a good Shepherd, I lay down My life for My sheep." He was born for that whole purpose. Some of the Jewish Leaders tried desperately to stand up for Jesus, but they were forced out of the proceedings by the corrupt leader. The actual sentence of crucifixion was handed down by Pilot, at the request of the mob led by the corrupt Jewish Leader. The actual physical beatings, tortures, and ultimate crucifixion was adminstered by Roman soldiers. All of this pretty much follows what I've read in the Bible regarding the process of Jesus' death. Then the incredible power of seeing His broken body brought down from the cross into His Mother's arms, then next seeing Him arise in glory in the tomb. Whole again. Wow.
All of the actors did amazing jobs of portraying the depth of emotion required for such an intense subject. Jim Caveziel (JC how freaky is that) was superb, and I had read that he experienced lashes of the whip, dislocated his shoulder, suffered from hypothermia, and was even struck by lightning during the making of the film.
Some poetic license was taken, especially with the frequent appearances of Satan, which in the Gospel only makes a brief appearance to Jesus in the desert. Othewise, the movie fairly closely followed what I have read in the Bible regarding Christ's crucifixion.
I could hear several people in the audience weeping during the movie, and I have to admit that I was one of them. It was heartbreaking to see the reactions that Mary had to her Son's pain.
I'm so glad I saw the film, because it did help me to realize how much Christ sacrificed for me, and anyone else who chooses to accept Him as their Savior.
