Hey ppl! *waves*
Mar. 2nd, 2012 04:41 pm2011 had a rough ending for me.
( Life and all it encompasses... )
So yeah, that's me. Still trying like crazy to find the silver lining, and don't think I won't spray paint it if I have too! :P
*hugs flist*
To support my SIL, who is in the midst of a painful divorce, we are spending Christmas with her. She has no family in Atlanta, so we're bringing family to her.
Today will be a mad rush of Christmas shopping for me. Since we won't be home for Christmas, Hubby and I are spending tomorrow with my Mom and Dad. Love them! My Dad is my wonderful step-dad. I decided that he's actually the Dad I was meant to have and he in turn has decided that I'm his daughter. :) I also hope to work in some BFF time, this weekend, with angstchic to properly celebrate her birthday. \o/
The New Year will be insanely busy due to work. I get tired just thinking about it. I've decided that I'm going to keep my eyes on the promising light at the end of the tunnel, but I'll also continue to be ready to run like hell if it turns out to be an oncoming train. :P
Love you, dear F-list! *hugs*
Wow. I've really been a slacker with LJ lately. *blinks*
I still have summer icons uploaded. Me! An icon maker! Shameful! *shakes finger at self*
aaaaand, I haven't even started thinking of Christmas icons. But there MUST be shiny new Christmas icons. Let's hear it from my icon fan club!! *crickets* Helllloooo? :P
Hey, at least I'm posting. w00t! Way to find the silver lining.
So, I recently saw Paranormal Activity. I liked it. I really did. It was creepy, and interesting, and even funny. The suspense was great. Made me jump a few times. Good scary fun. Had a woman behind us that summed up my thoughts at the end, quite nicely, with a well timed "Oh HELL no." Made me giggle. Hee.
I caught some re-runs of Moonlight on Chiller last night. Realized I'm still so very bitter about the cancellation. So. Very. Bitter. *hates in the general direction of CBS*
Wanna see New Moon. Still strongly in Camp Edward. Will not budge from Camp Edward. Ever. "Can't we all just get along??" NO. kthxbye. :P
Oh!!! I just got the new Star Trek from Netfilx. Wheeee!! Yes, I'm the loser that missed it at the theater, but Netflix is helping me not suck. Baby steps, people, baby steps.
Also - seems to be a lot of entertainment based thoughts rolling around in my head - I recently watched S1 of Trueblood, via Netflix, and DAYUM. I was kind of shocked by how nasty it was. I mean, I was embarrassed because it was so nasty. OMG how I wish Jason Stackhouse, and his "dates" would keep their clothes on! I get that he has sex. A lot. But I really got sick of oh-look-Jason's-having-sex-again. See me make use of the fastforward button. After doing my level best to overlook all the gratuitous nudity and sex, I did enjoy the story, and the vampires, and Sookie. Even though every time Bill says "Sooooky" in his over-the-top southern drawl, it makes me think of the Colonel and Belvedere the bulldog in that old Looney Tunes cartoon. "Oh, Belvedere! Come here, Ole Boy!! Aaah, Magnolias" Yes, Bill sounds like the Colonel. Which makes me giggle. Everytime. "Sooooky" *giggles* So I'm looking forward to S2, and hoping that Jason gets hit by a bus, or castrated, or both. ;)
On the domestic goddess front, I'm having curtain angst. I ordered some valances for my guest room, got them in. Put them up. Hated them. Sent them back. Ordered a different set. Got them in. Put them up. Hated them. Now I have to take them back. See my trauma? Now, I will be googling valances obsessively until I find the perfect set. Just another fun thing to stress over. Wheee!
I am looking forward to the holidays, though. I love Thanksgiving. We have family coming in and it's always so much fun when they are here. Looking forward to spending time with family, and doing the whole roasted turkey and trimmings bit. *happy sigh*
Hope everyone is gearing up for a fun holiday too. *hugs all around*
I got a new car! w00t!! A 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited, in Pearl White. It's much nicer than my Mazda Tribute, and gets better gas mileage too. Plus, we got a really good deal on it, since the dealership gave us a generous trade on my old car. Oh, and the best part? It's got a 5 year/60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, and that's peace of mind I'm v. glad to have!
It's been a long time coming, but here at last....I present baby bird pic!spam!
Seems like an age since I've updated. Things have been so crazy busy, but at least they are pretty much back to a normal crazy busy. Here's a quick run down...
My MIL's broken knee is healing well. She'll need physical therapy for another couple of months, but that's all part of the process. She's gone back to work, but doesn't like to drive herself as it still causes quite a bit of discomfort to control the pedals. FIL's work schedule has calmed down though, so he's able to take her where she needs to go most of the time.
I also still have projects at work, but can now at least see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I'm planning on spending a day with my Mom later this week, it's long overdue!
I got a new cell phone, and I love it. It's a Samsung Impression. I patiently waited until I was eligible for an upgrade to get a qwerty keyboard phone, and now I finally have it. I really like that this phone is touch screen capable, and also has a slide out keyboard. I don't care for touch screen keyboards, as I prefer to be able to feel the keys. I ordered a white silicone skin for my phone, which turned out to be an epic fail. It was horrid, and fit...or rather didn't fit...my phone like a loose sock. After that disappointment, I ordered this snap-on cover. Isn't it shiny? I have a decided weakness for anything with bling. :)
I went to see Transformers 2 with angstchic. We had lots of fun, but I must say I was surprised by the amount of language the movie had in it. It was also more sexualized. Quite a bit of gratuitous, barely-clothed-females in sexually provocative posing, slow-motion-with-excess-lipgloss, and all-college-girls-want-sex, scenes. Caused my eyebrows to go into orbit more than once. Still, once I got past those parts, it had some very witty dialogue and of course, fabulous special effects. Still, I wouldn't take my kids to see it, not unless they were old enough to drive, and maybe even vote. :P
So that's what's been going on in my world. How about you? I hope you're all well, dear flist.
*hugs flist*
<------ *points to icon* Yes, Dean. Yes I am.
Remember my little office flooding drama back in early May? Well, we only just had new carpet installed last Thursday. My new assistant and I have been working in a makeshift set up for over a month. Needless to say, I was more than a little thrilled things were finally on the way to being restored to normal.
Then, being my life, more crazy stuff happened.
Friday afternoon, my MIL slipped on wet tile at Church and shattered her kneecap. We had the whole ambulance/emergency room experience. She had surgery to wire it back together Monday, and was discharged today. I stayed at home with her most of the day, as my FIL is having to work out of town. She's doing well, so that is a wonderful thing.
Saturday night we came home from work, to discover our A/C was out. Hubby, Baby Dogs, and I had to suffer through 80+ temperatures all night. Luckily, we were able to get it serviced and fixed Sunday afternoon. \o/
Sunday, all the stress everyone's been under came to a head, and I got into shouting match with my FIL at work...and in front of God and everybody. Being part of a family business can be incredibly frustrating at times. We made up, but it was just one more drop in the bucket of suck.
I've already put in over 53 hours at work, since I had to work all weekend to get the offices set back up. Plus, I tackled the cleaning, and reorganizing of the entire building. *iz ded*
Oh, and to top it all off...I have a stupid heat rash.
All this craziness has apparently caused me to be completely discombobulated. How do I know this? Because when I went to brush my teeth yesterday morning, I tried to squirt contact lens solution on my toothbrush. *facepalm*
Maybe this weekend will be better. Please? *begs*
So, here's the thing. I had a wonderful birthday. Sending out more birthday thanks to sandy_s and
rikki_oko for lovely, and generous gifts! I love you girls!
There I was basking in the afterglow of birthday happiness, and my car decides to have a massive breakdown. A very expensive, massive, breakdown involving exhaust manifolds, and catalytic converters. *headdesk* Both Hubby and I nearly had a stroke when we received the repair quote from the dealership. Planning on getting a couple of more quotes from other mechanics tomorrow. So since Tues. afternoon, I've pretty much been a big ball of WAH over my car. I've even scolded it for not warning me with at least some small sign. A check engine light before disaster struck would have been nice, ya know? Bad, naughty, car. Did I mention WAH?
Also, my work place suffered some pretty intense water damage a couple of weeks ago. Enough to soak the carpets in two offices. That's been a barrel of fun. NOT. We had to wait a week for an adjuster to come out. We couldn't clean, or move anything. All of our computers, printers, fax machine, etc. are in that awful humid enviroment! There was condensation on everything! By the time the adjuster showed, both offices were majorly gross and funky smelling. I even saw mold growing on one of my wood file cabinets! Adjuster notifed us that the type of damage we had wasn't covered. The water came through a faulty door, blown ajar during a pouring thunderstorm, and apparently it has to be a leak from a damaged roof or wall. Oh joy. Second adjuster was requested by our insurance salesman. We had to wait another week for him. As you can imagine, we still couldn't clean anything. *headdesk, headdesk, headdesk* So now the offices are unbearable. The walls are warped, and according to the flooring guy - the mold is toxic when the odor becomes sickly sweet. Well, we've reached that stage now. The only good? The second adjuster seemed to think the damage would be covered. Still. I, and my new office assistant, have missed work days because we weren't able to do anything. We worked 3 days last week, trying to stay out of the offices as much as possible. That was before the "sweet" smell started. Now that it has, I've decided that we are not going to work in that building until it's cleaned. Tomorrow we'll be working in another building, and we'll just have to make due without access to our computers, files, or anything we'd generally need. Looks like it will be phone duty only for us. *sigh*
So yeah. Looks like the universe decided to balance out the fabulous-ness of my birthday with car and work drama. *glares at universe*
Other than that...
- I missed the Supernatural finale. I can, however, catch it on Hulu now that I've got broadband. woot!
- I was pleasantly surprised to hear Dollhouse was renewed. Now let's hope FOX will stay out of Joss' way in S2.
- The Lost finale was all kinds of awesome. I love my freaky show!
- Managed to post a set of Supernatural icons, and work on some other graphics projects too.
- Enjoyed gorgeous weather today, which was a nice treat.
Soooo. Here's to hoping that I'll be able to get a more reasonable repair rate, and have some progress made on restoring our offices to an inhabitable state. *prays liek woah*
