I read today that they found the body of that 11 year old girl that was abducted in Florida. I told my husband last night, when they said on the news that the suspect wasn't cooperating, that I knew that she had to be dead. I hope that he gets punished to the fullest extent of the law. I can only imagine the pain that her parents feel. I just can't understand the evil that is in some people. Then I made the mistake of going to a message board discussing the case, and had to leave because of all the idiotic comments from people blaming the girl, and her parents. Why is it that the victims are so often blamed? Don't people understand that the criminal is the one who made the decision to harm/rape/kill another human being, and they are the ones that are to blame for crimes they commit. I understand that it is necessary in this world to be cautious, and aware of your enviroment to keep yourself as safe as possible, but to place blame on a child who is victimized by an adult...come on.

Here is the part I also have issue with:

"Smith has been arrested at least 13 times in Florida since 1993, according to state records, and convicted of drug possession and other charges...."

Okay, 13 times is a bit much. He should not have been on the streets in the first place. But, that's a whole 'nother can of worms.

Oh, and what is worse is this:

In the 1997 kidnapping case, a 20-year-old woman in Bradenton said a man grabbed her as she walked by and tried to pull her away, according to records released by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

''He got on top of me and told me to shut up or he would cut me,'' she told authorities. After a struggle, she said, she managed to run into the street, and passengers in an approaching van stopped and rescued her.

Smith, found hiding behind a house by a police tracking dog, was acquitted by jurors after telling them he was trying to keep the woman from running into the street and she misunderstood.

He had attempted to abduct this woman, and was acquitted on that lame explanation? That is such a shame.

That always bothers me. "Well, the girl was out alone or on the internet or wearing sexy clothes or whatever." IMO a person has no right to attack another person unless it's self defense. period. I don't care if a girl is walking down the street naked, she never deserves to be rapped. And a child should never be held responsible in this kind of situation. *growls*

Wow...I'm all opinionated today. What's that about?

I know what you mean, it must be a full moon or something. :) Trust me on this though, don't go to the message boards discussing this stuff, because it will only make you more angry...I know it did me.
