Progressive Movie Day
Jan. 20th, 2004 08:09 amI came up with this brainstorm of an idea the other day. A progressive middle-earth movie day!
See, my mother-in-law went and saw the FotR with me, but has never seen the TT or RotK. She has never read the book, so she doesn't really know the characters. She she is one of those types of people that doesn't alway catch all the subtle character references in movies easily either, and has to ask alot of questions to keep up with the story. So I've decided the best way to induct her into the full glory and wonders of LotR, is to sit down with her, and watch my DVDs of the first two movies, then go and see the RotK in the theater all in the same day. That way she will have the entire storyline fresh in her mind and uninterrupted! Sheer genius! Then, I hope she will finally understand what the frilly heck is going on. ;)

Date: 2004-01-20 07:57 am (UTC)I read the series when I was in college, and even wrote a term paper on it. I recently bought one of the books that has all three parts together,(I've somehow lost my original boxed set *kicks self*)but haven't sat down and read it.
I wish I had the extended versions, I hear they are amazing. Hopefully, I'll be able to acquire them soon. :)
Btw, did you catch my post a few days back with more LotR/BtVS icons? I knew you said you were interested in them, and didn't want you to miss out. :)

Date: 2004-01-20 11:39 am (UTC)I tried so very hard to work LotR into my final paper for one of my writing classes last year (the class was called 'Heroes, Saints, and Martyrs' - the first day of class, she sat us down and had us watch the scene with Boromir at the end of FotR. She soo became my favorite prof that day ;) ), but alas - it was not meant to be. I've heard rumors that there's a Tolkien class somewhere here, but I can't find it :(
The extended editions are amazing. They bring in a lot of the little things from the book that were missing in the original cut. The Lothlorien gifts, the entwash... Lots of wonderful little things :) I highly recommend getting them, when you get the chance.

No, I didn't catch that one! LJ has this wierd problem with my friends page - every once in a while, I'll go back through the posts, and inbetween two that I know I've already seen, there will be a new one. ::shakes head:: I don't get it, but I'm always afraid that I've missed something special - like this! Thanks so much for pointing it out :D Must go investigate, now...
