eyesthatslay: (Lost Jack Very Very Alert)

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about...

Previously on Eyesthatslay vs. Dish Network

Shawn the installer showed up, he showed up!!!

Shawn was nice, and reminded me a little of a young Jim Stafford, but without the 70's style hair. He looked at the taller pole we had ready, and said it would work just fine for our install. He walked around our property and said the best place to put the dish for no-doubt-about-it-signal was indeed 200 ft away from our house between the two metal buildings.

He did say that he thought the dish would also work fine where we prefer to put the dish, closer to our house. Sadly, he didn't bring his compass to verify 100% that it would get the best signal, but he's going to return today to check for us. He also said that they CAN install on metal roofs, which is totally the opposite of what David Chappelle told us. Oh, yes. There is a special hell for installers who whine.

So, Shawn is going to come back out today and verify the place we've selected. If it's good, we're going to set up our install. If the place we prefer isn't good, then Hubby and I will have to decide the safest install for the dish over in the work area. Either on the roof, or taking the chance of the taller pole. Hubby is concerned that even with the taller pole, it could get knocked off signal. Since where the pole would have to be is in a location that heavy equipment, and items are often placed, and could hit the pole.

Oh, I did ask him on his opinion on Dish vs. Direct, since he installs both, and he said even though it's better for their company to push Direct, he has Dish, and wouldn't have anything else. He said as a consumer, Dish has the best, and  most user friendly equipment. He told us that we would be getting a top of the line receiver, and that the DVRs can hold 150 hrs of standard def programming, and 50 hrs of HD. So getting his professional opinion made me feel ever better about switching

Sooooo. Today we'll know for certain if we can rest comfortably with a safe pole placement or not. *oh please please please*

Thank you for your continued support. *nods*

We now return you to your regularly scheduled LiveJournal. :P

If it's any consolation to you, we have the Dish Network. So far it has worked pretty well. The customer service is pretty good. Still a heck of lot better then Direct TV (our first try at satellite) What I don't like of any of the satellite serivces, is their weakness in bringing good local information. On the weather channel, they don't give a very good forecast for our area. They just report the national weather. When we had cable, we always got a local radar and forecast. In the summer, that was great to have when we had bad storms moving through.

Most satellite companies do NOT like to climb up pitched roofs, or roofs that are high. They would rather install around the front of the house or porch. I still think the Dish Network is better then Direct TV.

Thanks for sharing your experience with Dish. I'm sure I'll be happy with switching, once I get settled in with them.

I do get local channels through Direct and Dish, so we can get current storm weather updates, as they always break into programming if there are dangerous storms in the area.

Shawn the installer said that many installers don't like to do jobs that require a little extra work and ours did. He suspects that the first installer just didn't want to do the job. I'm just glad I finally found one that didn't mind taking care of us.

My husband told me that when bad storms are in the area, we will get local warnings. I didn't really think they did.

It is true about the "extra work" A lot of this could be fear of heights. Some of the workers have them and will not take the extra step so to speak. We found that out with Direct TV and Dish Network. Finally they found a worker that was willing to climb the roof at Dish Neetork. I think in the end you will be pleased with them. Having a Dish still can bring problems, BUT heck of a lot better then cable companies

Wow! I admire your willingness to work things out. :)

Dish has just opened operations here and is the cheapest option. Sadly I cannot install a dish in my house because so I have to use cable. :)

Finally, some answers from Shawn. Here's hoping the problem is resolved quickly and that your reception is amazing.
