to get an adrenaline rush from the preparations of a yard sale? 'Cause if it is then I'm a freak. :P I have worked my buns off this past week, rooting through my closets, drawers, cabinets, and storage building....and I swear I'm like a prospector that's struck gold everytime I run across something else to slap a sale sticker on. Before this is all over my house may be as nekkid as S6 Spike!

I even played a joke on my husband, who day by day has grown increasingly more concerned that I might even try to rummage him off next. I placed a "make an offer" sticker on one of our dogs, and a "$2 million" sticker on the other. Of course I thought this was hilarious, and once the joke was over I promptly removed the stickers like a good mommy and got back to work. A frenzy of price stickers and magic markers, I was something to behold. Later, I looked down on my shirt and noticed that I had somehow priced myself with a "make an offer" sticker....apparently *nothing* is sacred at this point.

What's worse is I've attacked the planning of this yard sale like a 4 star general preparing for battle. I've lined out special color coded stickers for my items, and for [livejournal.com profile] angstchic's items. I've made matching signs to be placed at strategic points, which are indicated with a number system and color-coded map of the area. I only just stopped myself from laminating the darn thing!

I need help, don't I.

Then I'll be right there getting help with you. I was telling [livejournal.com profile] angstchic, that I had the same thing---color-coded stickers for items and forms I designed and printed to track sales. I've been so jealous listening to her go on about the organization. Do you do schematics for optimum placement of items?

Sigh. God, do I miss yard sales...

It's good not to be alone!

OMG! I designed some Sales Record forms and printed them out to keep up with what we sell! I even broke out a clip board to put them on.

I haven't drawn up a schematic *yet*, but I have organized my items according to type. I have a kitchen section, decor section, apparel section, etc. It is going to be a mini dept store. I've also arrange my tables for optimum shopabiltiy from both sides.

*sigh* we are sick puppies arent' we.

Sales record forms are absolutely essential if it's more than person involved; anybody who says otherwise is whacked. :)

I did much of the same with my organization, even going so far as alphabetizing any music, books, or videos that were getting sold. And on clothing where I thought sizing was kind of wonky, I actually did measurements and put it on a label for the item. Plus, the requisite exterior plug ready to test electrical appliances for interested buyers.

We're not sick. Just...misunderstood. :D

V. misunderstood! ;)

I too have an exterior plug in close proximity for testing of electrical items.

From all my preparations you'd think this wasn't my first rodeo, but it is! I've never done a yard sale before, but it is so much fun! Wheee!

Be prepared to be tired then. But it would be a lot worse if you weren't organized. This type of planning makes the going so much smoother.

Sigh. Still wish I was there.

I wish you were too! *pets you*....do they not do yard sales in merry old England?

Nope. They have what they call "boot sales" where you show up to a large lot---usually a field of some sort---and sell stuff out of the trunk---"boot"---of your car. It's very hard to be organized about it as you're limited to anything you can fit into your car, including anything you might want to set things up on, and you are totally dependent on the weather (which in England is usually wet). Plus, it's much more of a bartering type of environment, so putting price stickers on things is practically a waste as everyone will try and dicker you down.

Oh, wow! I didn't realize, the whole sell out of your car in a field thing. That would make it not so much fun for organizing....I think that is the part that I love about all of this too. Just the fact that all my closets are so tidy and sorted just gives me the warm fuzzies! Then setting everything up to look nice on the tables and etc. I hope it is as much fun as it seems to be right now. I may be wiped out once it is all over!

Okay, I am not even there yet, and I am truly scared. Gonna sit for a second and then I will pack up and be on my way. Be hollering at you in just a minute!

We just got back from tick or treating, and going to see the pumpkin house, which I will tell you all about later. Way cool! We had a fabulous night!

I wish you and [livejournal.com profile] angstchic the best of luck on the yard sale, and I hope you make lots of money in your mini department store!

*hugs*
