Welcome To Slugfest 2004.
Jun. 21st, 2004 02:49 pmWow. I have done nothing productive today at all. Go me! I do have reasons though.
1. I woke up with a nagging headache.
2. Needed to finish watching Big Fish.
So once I finished popping some advil, eating lunch, and watching the movie I figured I deserved a nap. Now at least the headache is gone, even though I'm still a bit groggy. Oh, and I watched Girl With A Pearl Earring last night too.
I loved GwaPE, which proves that I'm like a moth to flame for UST. Plus, Colin Firth! with long hair, and all tormented. Perfect. Scarlett J. is a lovely girl, and their scenes together were nothing less than riveting. Everyone did a wonderful job in their roles, and the emotion was all very believable. The film was beautiful visually, with the authentic settings, and costumes. I have to admit that I really, really, wanted to see them kiss though. Wah. Though the gift of the earrings did soothe me a little. I'm a stickler for happy endings with these kinds of things.
Big Fish was pretty dissappointing to me. I had a terrible time trying to reconcile Ewan M. as Albert F. when older. Seems like I just couldn't "buy" into it enough to feel any kind of connection with the "older" Edward Bloom, and that may just be me. I liked the fantastical elements of the stories, but the whole Father/Son thing just seemed to leave me cold. I didn't feel moved when Edward died, though I did like seeing versions of all his characters at the funeral services. I'm glad I didn't buy this DVD and only rented it, because I don't think I'll ever care to see it again.

Date: 2004-06-21 01:32 pm (UTC)I got alot of things accomplished this weekend at least, even planting flowers, and treating the yard yesterday. So I don't have any guilt about vegging out today.
You have a good evening too, and I'll try to call you later this week! :)

Date: 2004-06-21 05:00 pm (UTC)Finney's Bloom didn't charm me like Ewan's. (though I could just be partial to Ewan *wink*)I've seen a movie with a young Albert Finney in them, and I would have never thought to compare him with Ewan. That is interesting that he was hired because of resemblance. Of couse...Finney was playing the young Ebenezzer Scrooge - young and grumpy. Heh.
I did think that the actress that played the young Jessica Lange looked a lot like she did when she was young, and that was pretty cool.
I wish I would have been moved by the son's story...but for some weird reason it didn't touch me, and that is unusual...since I can cry over commercials. I'm glad you liked it though. :)

Date: 2004-06-21 06:23 pm (UTC)That sucks that they changed the look of Barlow. He is supposed to be all blue-bald-heady with the uber long fingers. That is what made him so creepy.
The hubby and I are planning on watching Along Came Polly tonight, then hitting the sack. Sounds like a plan to me. :)
