I was pretty disappointed at the lack of warmth & chemistry that Natalie Portman as Padme' had on screen. I think that Hayden did as much as he could, but the lack of chemistry between he and Natalie P. kept him from truly shining. I like you was much more interested in his acting, and kept wishing that they would have paired him with someone that he could of clicked with. Imagine if a brunette SMG or Morena (Inara of Firefly) were cast as Padme', I think the screen could have caught on fire! :)
I think that Padme' is supposed to be 4 years older than Anakin, according to what I've read/seen.
