My thoughts and prayers are with those that are fleeing from Hurricane Rita, and for those that have homes in the storm path. I hope you and your family are safe and sound,

I've been watching Fox News, and what I feared has happened. Levees have once again failed in New Orleans, and it's flooding all over again. The kicker? The rain hasn't even reached the worst point yet. There is no telling the amount of work that will have to be done to make that city safe from future flooding. The levees are all probably weakened, and will be ripe for breaches until they can be completely rebuilt and/or reinforced. It could be months before it is really "safe", and I use that term loosely.
There's no way of knowing how many more storms will pop up, since I've heard from
slackerace, that hurricane season runs through Nov. 30th. It boggles the mind.

Date: 2005-09-24 12:40 am (UTC)So, it might be hurricane Zeta that we're watching in November. It's craziness.
I already have anxiety about global warming, and to think that a ONE DEGREE increase in the temperature of the Gulf of Mexico can cause such devastation scares me even more. I really hope that Rita stays a category 3 or lessens to nothing.

Date: 2005-09-24 01:38 am (UTC)Aren't we already at 17 hurricanes this season, and the all time record is 21? I wouldn't doubt that with all the time left, we might easily top that count. Ack.
It is scary how much such a small thing can change the global weather patterns. The Day After Tomorrow freaked me out for that very same reason.
I hope the damage from Rita is as minimal as possible. People have already suffered, and lost so much. :(

Date: 2005-09-23 11:32 pm (UTC)The Entergy branch down there has filed for bankruptcy, I read. I keep checking the weather sites to see what's happening.
And oh, we are still on for tomorrow as of now. Guess what I just got from Amazon! Squeee!!!

EEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeee!!! You got them in so quick! I can't wait for our marathon! :D
